switched out the P4 @ 2.26 ghz processor for a P:4 2.8ghz. The bios says speed is 1.6ghz. Windows XP pro shows 2.8 and 1.6. I updated the bios to A07 and the Intel chipset from Dell's website. Still not able to change the speed. This method differs from the method on the myhack site as I found this simpler. I will call the Mac or Hack used to do this "Donor" the USB drive "Install"
INSTALLATION -- Attach USB drive to "Donor" computer. Open Disk Utility and partition the USB drive. Use one partition Mac OS extended journaled and under options pick GUID partition table.
Insert Mac OS X Install DVD. DO NOT click on the install Mac OS X when it pops up.
In the Finder Go Menu- Go to folder-type /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages..Open 'OSInstall.mpkg NOT OSInstall.pkg or the upgrade.pkg ..MAKE SURE that the destination chosen is the external drive "Install" Under the custom tab, uncheck printer drivers, languages, fonts etc, if you need any of these, they can be installed later. When the install is finished, close the installer.
