Nordica Ski Boots
I was already thinking about buying my own ski boots when the active footwear company Profeet announced it was opening a London “superstore” with a special ski boot lab. That clinched it.In Profeet’s spacious showroom, I filled in a ski-history questionnaire, took off my shoes and socks, and we got down to business.
First, the foot-pressure mapping and video analysis, part of a biomechanics assessment to work out how your body moves when you ski (incorrect posture can be corrected by the boots). Next, a mobility and flexibility test of feet, ankles and calves. Then the best bit: standing on warm moulds to make the insoles. While they were cast, I tried on a selection of boots.
After two hours, I left Profeet with a pair of perfectly fitting Nordica Olympia Speed Machine 10.5s. But would they improve my skiing?
Two weeks later I tried them out. The first difference was that, while my friends complained about their hired boots, I never gave mine a second thought. I didn’t even undo them at lunchtime.
